A Local's Guide to Blanco, Texas — Eat, Drink, Shop, Do!
Blanco, Texas (pronounced BLANK-OH) is a small town nestled between the Texas Hill Country hot spots of Wimberley and Fredericksburg, but it is NOT to be missed.
If you find yourself in the Texas Hill Country, we highly recommend spending a day in Blanco as there are many hidden treasures. We have highlighted a few of our favorites below, but trust us, there is plenty to see!
Breakfast
Chess Club
This is the local favorite for breakfast. Enjoy your farm-fresh eggs while watching the suppliers (the chickens themselves) run freely in the backyard.
Be patient with the staff, and don’t come starving, as it’s a “you’ll get it when it’s ready” kind of establishment (but it will be so worth it!).
Open daily except Mondays & Tuesdays from 8 am – 2 pm
Deutsch Apple Bakery
If you’re heading to the Chess Club for breakfast on a Saturday and want to have a little appetizer before you arrive, do yourself a culinary favor and head to the Deutsch Apple Bakery. The goods are baked fresh, and you can tell (no need to warm them up, they just came out of the oven).
Open Wednesday - Saturday from 9 am to when they sell out
Lunch
Old 300 BBQ
Old 300 BBQ is some of the best barbeque in the Texas Hill Country, and it’s right on the square of Blanco, Texas!
Open every day from 11 am - 8 pm (Friday until 8 pm, and Sunday until 3 pm)
Rosebud Cafe
Those looking for a lighter lunch, eat here! Rosebud has a fine selection of salads, sandwiches, and cookies.
Attached to the Rosebud cafe is a very cute shop, “Hill Country Lavender Retail Location”, and is a must-visit! They have a mix of some used clothing, new clothing!
Open every day (for hours, check their website)
OroBianco Italian Creamery (Ice Cream)
Water buffalo-based ice cream and amazing espresso? In small-town Texas? YES!
If you’re heading to a winery for the day, bring a cooler with you so that you can grab some cheese and crackers to enjoy at the winery, or later that evening.
Open every day from 11 am - 7 pm
What to Do
Visit a Real Hat Shop — Herb’s Hat Shop
They can fix your hat, sell you a new hat (with all of the cute, or manly, fixings like hat bands, pins, and more), plus they have some other goodies like Fringe Scarves — which are AMAZING.
Open every day except Monday (for hours, check their website)
