Where to Kayak & Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) in the Texas Hill Country
There’s an island nearby that you can kayak to and enjoy some solitude!
The Texas Hill Country is known for its water attractions — Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, the Guadalupe river float, and so much more. But did you also know that the Hill Country has a beautiful lake, too?
Canyon Lake is a stunning, man-made lake with crystal blue waters that make you feel that you’re in the Caribbean (especially if you have a Corona in hand!).
We rented a kayak through Paddle Canyon Lake and loved every minute of our hour-long adventure.
You can actually take the kayaks to a little island, beach them, and walk around a bit. We ran into a family of gorgeous Egyptian geese and enjoyed the views.
Even on an overcast day, it was stunning.
We recommend wearing waterproof clothing as we went on a chilly day and wore cotton. If you’re kayaking in the summer, just wear your swim gear so you can jump right in!
This is an Egyptian goose! They are “native to Africa south of the Sahara and the Nile Valley… Because of their popularity chiefly as an ornamental bird, escapees are common and feral populations have become established in Western Europe, the United States, and New Zealand.” — Wiki
