Top 5 Breweries To Explore in the Texas Hill Country
The Shady Llama
The Shady Llama has a little bit of everything, starting with the beer. They don’t brew their own, they feature locally brewed beer on tap. It’s a great place to watch the sunset, pet a Llama, grab a bite to eat from the food truck and just generally “hang out”. We often find live music and an interesting assortment of Hill Country characters. On our outing, we found ourselves having a beer with our priest!
Middleton Brewery
Middleton’s Brewery, our favorite and closest (7 miles to the East on FM 32), has a great selection of beer brewed on site. Try a flight before you settle on your favorite. They frequently have live music, and always provide freshly popped popcorn. Food truck on weekends. Indoor and outdoor seating, including a rooftop with picnic tables. Pets welcome.
Roughhouse Brewery
Just around the corner from Middleton Brewery is Roughhouse Brewery, another great place to sip beer, enjoy live music and grab a bit to eat. They brew the beer on site and the kitchen produces wonderful food to go along with it. Indoor and outdoor seating, a stage for the band — what more could you ask for? It’s a 3 minute drive from Middleton’s and is located in a beautiful country setting.
Ghost Note Brewing
A little further away, but worth the drive towards Dripping Springs, you’ll find another brewery that makes the beer onsite and has good food, live music and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy nature and the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. They also serve local wine and cider. Pets welcome.

Just a short drive North from Ghost Note Brewing you’ll find Twisted X,, another great place to sip beer, enjoy live music and grab a bit to eat. Try a flight and grab lunch from the food truck. . Indoor and outdoor seating, live music, plenty of parking.
